We live in the information age, yet it is still surprising the amount of candidates that fail to do an adequate level of research on an organisation prior to interview.

An interview is a two way affair and at some stage the interviewer will ask you “So tell me what you know about us”. Going silent and hoping the ground will swallow you up is not going to do you any favours and will seriously affect your chances, so make sure you prepare well.  Remember to that the level of research should be inline with the level of role applied for.

At senior management level this will be expected to include:

  • Financial data
  • Corporate culture
  • Structure
  • History
  • An understanding of the relevant market
  • Recent news regarding the organisation

At the BJD Group we always advise our candidates to undertake their research before the interview.

This shows the interviewer that you want to understand the company and you have took the time to find out more about them. It also shows you understand the sector they work in and makes you more of a credible candidate and in turn, they will want to find out more about you.

Thanks to the internet, information is far easier to obtain than ever before. The web enables you to find tremendous details about any company. A small amount of time on the right websites will reveal information such as their biggest clients, awards they may have won, how they operate and even how many staff they currently have.  Our candidates can also benefit from our insight in the organisation gained from our initially briefing on the role.
